Our culture is constantly being moulded by our environment; it comes from the people around us and is extremely important as it will determine our character.
For example, in our most formative years we are shaped by our families, those closest to us, our community. Then as we grow up our friends and the education we receive will have an impact on who we are as well as our faith, values (religious background) and our traditions.
Each person and stage of life has a part to play in shaping the person we have been or will become.
When we talk about creating a culture it may be difficult as we have been shaped from birth by our environment. For example, if a baby doesn’t receive love in the first six months, they struggle with bonding attachment, so before we can fulfil our culture, we may have to deal with some issues in order to feed our future.
A culture is a set of values and beliefs, an environment that guides our future and others around us.
At Coaching for Christ our culture is based on 18 years of experience, working with a variety of backgrounds, personalities, nationalities, and God has taught us a lot about diversity, primarily how to create unity within diversity.
It comes down to understanding how different people think and act based on where they come from. Once you understand that, you can help them grow, bringing the gold out of each person and forming a team, despite their differences, after all it is those around you who determine what the culture you create is.
As I mentioned before, this can all be difficult, it requires us to know who we are but also who you want to become in Christ. It means possibly letting go of parts of us that have been moulded by our past in order to thrive in the culture Jesus sets for us. He created it so we could take it as our own.
Not allowing our past to shape us but allowing our future to through the example of Jesus.
In the upcoming articles we will be looking at the culture we have created at Coaching For Christ based on how Jesus has called us and showed us to live.
